The Trilogy story begins in the 1920s with two brothers, Eldon and Afton Coon, who built a fishing boat in Port Townsend, WA, and set sail for Alaska. After settling in Sitka and Ketchikan, Eldon carried on the family’s adventurous spirit.
Operating a successful charter-boat business in Southeast Alaska, Eldon’s life took a dramatic turn in 1969 when a shipwreck forced him and his wife, Jeannette, to start anew. With the help of their children, they built a 50-foot sailing trimaran named Trilogy in 1971. Their journey took them from Alaska to Mexico, Central and South America, the Galapagos Islands, and finally, the South Pacific.
When funds ran low, the family sailed to Hawai‘i to work and restock supplies. However, the islands captivated their hearts. Jim and Rand Coon, Eldon’s sons, not only fell in love with Maui’s beauty but also with two local island girls. The family decided to settle on Maui, and thus, Trilogy Sailing Charters was born.
